![]() ![]() The Iota offers the same three security modes by default - Standby, Home and Away - and like its predecessor, you have to go through Abode's web portal (rather than its mobile app) if you want to adjust many of the iota’s settings, including adjusting something as simple the volume of the Iota's piercing chirping sounds. Abode iota performanceĪbode hasn't changed the core experience of its system since we tested its other DIY home security kit last year. All I had to do was provide my email address and account passcode to call off the alarm. Though I had missed a call for a tripped alarm, I was able to call back the agent at the number they called from to inform them that everything was fine at home. MORE: Best Wireless (Wi-Fi) Home Security CamerasĪbode continues to offer some of the best no-contract pricing for professional monitoring. The plans are all contract-free and available for immediate purchase through the mobile app. If you'd rather not pay monthly for the service, you can buy it on an as-needed basis for three or seven days of professional monitoring for $8 and $15, respectively. There's also the Connect plan, which costs $8 a month and gets you everything plus cellular backup, or the Connect + Secure plan, which costs $20 a month and includes professional monitoring through COPS and UCC. The company offers a free Basic bundle, which gets you IFTTT channel access, two user accounts, and up to 75 automation schemes. I'm sorry, but the first line of customer support is still atrocious, and I do actually mean the worst of any company I do business with, but beyond that I'd highly recommend friends and family to get an Iota and just avoid the cameras.Abode's professional monitoring packages haven't changed much since its previous system release. If I remove my issues with their cameras from the discussion, however, I have to admit that I'm overall quite happy with my setup at this point. I still have holes in the outside of my house for it(the logitech I put in to replace it is smaller), which remind me how bitter I am about that piece of junk regularly. I received one of the first doorbell cams, and that was a paperweight. I've had some up and downs with Abode, I made what turned out to be a poor decision to install it in the business I ran and we violated some regulations by the IP camera not being reliable enough and I had to move on. With the latest firmware update that I received they re-fixed the issues I was having and *knock on wood* the last ten days have been, dare I say, flawless with HomeKit.
